Garden Sculpture is where Topiary Joe started. Working with Disney World on Grodan and Pargro rockwool hydroponic growing projects in the mid '80's, (Future Farming exhibit in Epcot) I saw topiaries as a cool market niche for building living sculpture of just about anything. The learning curve is high, so I went to my customer and let them teach me while paying me to stuff and plant their numerous pieces.
I subcontracted for Disney World and the Disney Institute making specialty items like Oprah Winfrey's 10th Anniversary 4' tall OPRAH Logo (rush job of 3 days!). Then, a 6' wide Miss America Crown, Birds and swans for HGTV segments on topiary (Way To Grow, episodes WTG-129, 133 and others), teaching at the Disney Institute, stuffing and planting dancing alligators and hippos in tu-tu's...All that fun stuff before I realized there were other customers to support my artistic urges...HUGE ANIMAL TOPIARIES and vintage race car wire sculpture to thirty feet tall!
My Father taught me to weld and how to bend rebar with a table vise. He was a great man that was working all the time. I miss him, and I never looked back. 3,000+ pieces later, Public Art, Living Corporate Logos and softening the harsh urban landscape with Living Walls containing three dimensional wall art is the focus.

Have a piece of Topiary Joe! Hire me by the week to come to your place, size it up and build about Anything you want on the premises. When inspired I build fast and plenty. Bribes of fine wines, food and fly fishing gets you first in line, me inspired and we talk over the plans to implement. The following pictures show sculptures in two different approaches to topiary:
1) American Portable Stuffed and Planted Topiary, where vines are planted into a sphagnum moss stuffed and irrigated body for an immediate Green Satiation, and
2) Traditional Cutting Frames, where the bush or vines are grown from the ground into the sculpture and fill in over time, transforming into a permanent planted sculpture for years to come.
3) OR we skip the plants all together and make it a steel sculpture, like the last six horses that are good enough to stand alone!
